Brugge is a quaint town (but what town in Europe isn't?) just northwest of Brussels and has been called the "Venice of the North." We were able to stop by for a few hours on our way through.

And then we were on to Calais... right on the coast of northern France where the English channel is at its narrowest. Can you see the white cliffs of Dover in the background? Supposedly Britain and France are only 21 miles apart at this point.

The cliffs of Dover. That sounds like the setting for a Bronte novel or something.

And on our way... we drove down the coast of Normandy on our way to the D-day sites. It was beautiful! I told Ben I couldn't think of anything I'd rather be doing at that moment than driving along the coast of France. The travelers in front of us seemed to be having a great time in their convertible. Our car is not nearly as cool. It's a white station wagon. But go ahead and imagine that's us in the convertible... so hip!
Of course pictures never do it justice, but it was a beautiful drive!

  1. I just added this to my list of places I want to go but probably won't ever be able to. Just so you know.

  2. Wow, it's been fun to look at some of your adventures through Europe. Brugge, Paris, and Normandy are just some of the places Brian and I went about 7 years ago. Glad to see Paris hasn't changed much! --Megan
